Job Descriptions

PTA Officer and Committee Chair Positions

Our children's success depends upon parents volunteering their time. Whether it is in the classroom or in the office, whether you can commit to a year long position or just a few weeks in the year, you will be appreciated! Contact us if you see something you would like to do.

The following are brief descriptions of the leadership positions available to parent volunteers at Mohr through the PTA.

EXECUTIVE BOARD

President - Lead the school PTA toward specific goals chosen by the membership. The President must attend the following monthly meetings: Executive Board, Association, Pleasanton PTA Council and the Parent Communication Council meetings.

Exec. Vice President - Serve as the primary aide to the President. Perform the duties of the President in the absence or disability of that officer to act. Attend the Executive Board and Association meetings, and the other above-mentioned meetings in the absence of the President.

Secretary - Attend and keep an accurate written record of the proceedings of all meetings of the association and the Executive Board in a bound book, which is the legal record of the PTA. Perform such other duties as may be delegated.

Treasurer - Keep such permanent books of account and records of all receipts and the disbursements perform all bookkeeping and accounting functions of the PTA. Prepare all financial reports, pay all authorized bills, and present monthly financial reports at the monthly Executive Board and Association meetings.

Financial Secretary - Deposit all monies received by the school PTA, keep accurate records of all deposits for filing with the Treasurerís financial records for the Association. Present a monthly report with the Treasurerís report at the monthly Executive Board and Association meetings.

VP of Programs & Services - Oversee all fundraising activities approved by the Association. Attend Committee meetings and reports to the Executive Board. Stay current with upcoming grants, awards etc. Attend all Executive Board and Association meetings.

VP of Membership - Conduct a membership campaign. Keep database record of current membership. Attend all Executive Board and Association meetings.

VP of Legislation - Keep membership aware of legislation in the State and National PTA. Report information from School Board meetings to the membership at the monthly Executive Board and Association meetings.

Parliamentarian - Attend all meetings of the Association and of the Executive Board and give necessary advice in parliamentary procedure when requested. Oversee the nomination/election committee and chair the by-laws committee.

ON-GOING PROJECT COMMITTEES

Box Tops/Soup Labels - collect and submit for money/merchandise

Breakfast Book Clubs - starting in 2010-11, Breakfast book clubs will meet on Wednesday mornings before school. Chair will facilitate book choices, manage club membership by grade level

Earthquake/Safety Kits - assist w/ drills, inventory and distribute safety information

E-Scrip - assist parent enrollment in shopping fundraising programs

FAME (Fine Arts Mini Experience) - present and discuss famous paintings, art and composers

Go Green - promote recycling programs and environmentally friendly policies

Hospitality - set up and decorate school events

Marquee - update sign weekly

Newsletter Editor - Compile and edit submissions for weekly school and PTA e-newsletter.

Pizza w/ the Principal - assist with monthly student luncheon and character awards

P.P.I.E (Pleasanton Partners in Education) - attend monthly meetings

Recycling Drive - occurs every other month; collection and redemption of aluminum cans and plastics

Room Parent - assist teacher w/ classroom activities

School Health & Wellness - attend monthly meetings to be informed with various health issues concerning children. Write health related articles for Eagle Express.

School Historian - compile pictures and rosters of events in a scrapbook

Traffic Advisory - attend meetings when necessary and work closely with Principal on traffic safety (Sept-June)

Website - manage and update school and PTA information on website.

Yearbook - collect photographs and design layout for yearbook

EVENT or SHORT-TERM PROEJCT COMMITTEES

Art Show - assist with labeling, matting and displaying of art work (May)

Auditor - audit PTA financial records (Jan. & July)

Bingo - organize & set up event; purchase food to be sold and prizes (Feb.)

Book Fair - attend Scholastic Book Fair Workshop, schedule volunteers, set up books when delivered, promote and work at the book fair, and prepare a financial statement at the end of the book fair. (Fall & Spring)

Fall Family Event - organize activities (Oct.)

Field Day - set up activities (June)

Gift-Wrap - assists w/ gift-wrap sales/distribution (Sept. /Nov.)

Ice Cream Sales - sell ice cream on Fridays after school (Sept./Oct. & April-June)

Ice Cream Social - assist w/ set up, decoration, scoop & clean up (Sept.)

Parent Potluck - organize and set up luncheons for our parent community( Sep. & May)

Red Ribbon Week - coordinate activities for drug awareness week (Oct)

Reflections Program for the Arts - collect & submit student entries (Oct. & Jan.)

School Pictures - sort pictures & prepare students for pictures (Fall)

Student Directory - compile student information for distribution (Sept./Oct)

Science Fair - assist w/ preparation of school Science Fair (Mar.)

Spirit Wear - facilitate design of t-shirts, sweatshirts and other spirit wear, obtain samples from vendor, pre-sell at registration, order and deliver product. (design process to take place before previous year-end, sales/delivery in Aug/Sep)

Spring Family Event - organize activities for the Mohr community (May)

Supply Kits - organize, purchase and distribute supplies to each class (July-Sept.)

Teacher/Staff Luncheons - organize luncheon for staff twice a year. (Sept./June)
